Dorado LED Lamps Features
The purposes of making Cree's customers and users to have a clear understanding on the ways how to use Dorado LED lamps.
Dorado LED Lamps Description
Generally, The LED can be used the same way as other general purposed semiconductors. When using COTCO's Lamps, The following precautions must be taken to protect the LED.
Dorado LED Lamps Cautions
1. Cleaning
- Don't use unspecified chemical liquids to clean the LED, they could harm the resin of the LED. When washing is necessary, please immerse the LED in alcohol or Freon TE at normal temperature for less than one minute.
- The influence of ultrasonic cleaning on the LEDs differs depending on factors such as oscillator output and how the LEDs are mounted. Before cleaning by ultrasonic wave, testing should be performed to ensure this will not cause damage to the LEDs.
2. Moisture Proof Packing
- In order to avoid the absorption of moisture during transportation and storage Dorado LED are packed in the aluminum envelop, A desiccant with a humidity indicator is included in the aluminum envelop and indicator change its color from blue to pink as it absorbs moisture.
3. Storage
- In order to avoid the absorption of moisture, it is recommended to store LED (in bulk or taped) in the dry box (or the desiccators) with a desiccant. Otherwise storage in the following environment is recommended.
- Temperature : 5~30ºC Humidity : 60% RH Max
- It is recommended to solder LED as soon as possible after unpacking the aluminum envelop, But in case that LED have to be left unused after unpacking envelop again is requested.
- It is recommended to solder the LEDs as soon as possible after unpacking the aluminum envelop. But in case the LED have to be left unused the following is requested.
- The LED should be soldering within 24 hours (1 days) after opening the package.
- If the blue color of the desiccant indicator has faded after storing, a baking treatment should be performed as follows: 60ºC±5ºC for more than 24 hours.
4. Soldering
The use of the commercially available SN60(60% tin and 40% lead) or SN63 solder with silver content is recommended.
- Manual soldering is strongly not recommended.
- Modification should not be done after the LED have been soldered. If modification cannot be avoided , a heater plate or hot air gun iron should be used and temperature cannot exceed 240 deg. C, also need to check whether the characteristics of the LED may be damaged after soldering.
- Reflow soldering should not be done more than twice.
- When soldering , do not apply force to the package during heating.
- After soldering , do not wrap the circuit board.
5. Static Electricity and Surge
- Static electricity and surge damage the LEDs, It is recommended to use a wrist band or anti-electricity glove when handling the LEDs.
- All devices, equipment and machinery must be properly grounded.
- When inspecting own final products on which LEDs were mounted. It is recommended to check also.whether the mounted LEDs are damaged by static electricity or not. It is easy to find static-damaged LEDs by light emission test at lower current (below 1 mA is recommended). Damaged LEDs will show some unusual characteristics such as leak current remarkably increases, starting forward voltage becomes lower, or the LEDs get unlighted at the low current.
6. Heat Generation
- Heat generation must be taken into design consideration when using the LEDs, The coefficient of temperature increase per input electric power at room temperature is about 0.5 degrees C/ mW at the LEDs active layer. This temperature gets higher when the LEDs are densely mounted. It is necessary to design the circuit so that the operating conditions are within the absolute maximum ratings.
- The operating current should be decided after considering the ambient maximum temperature when the LEDs are illuminating.
7. Others
- Care must be taken so that reverse voltage will not exceed the absolute maximum rating when using LEDs with matrix drive.
- The leads are plated with silver. They will become discolored by contact by hydrogen sulfide and other gaseous chemicals. Precaution must be taken to maintain a clean storing atmosphere. Also, If the LEDs are stored for 3 months or more after being shipped from COTCO, a sealed container with a nitrogen atmosphere should be used for storage.
- The LED light output is strong enough to injure human eyes. Precautions must be taken to prevent looking directly at the LEDs with unaided eyes for more than a few seconds.
