LED Die Material

• Typically used in standard green and red LEDs
• Low cost
• Relatively short life at higher currents
• Max current typically less than other LED technologies
• Life expectation sensitive to temperature

Low/Standard Brightness - GaAsP/GaP (Gallium Arsenide Phosphide/Gallium Phosphide)

• Typically used in standard orange, red and yellow LEDs

Moderate Brightness - GaAlAs (Gallium Aluminum Arsenide, aka AlGaAs)

• Available only in ultra-bright red
• Relatively low cost
• Good brightness
• Deeper red color (longer wavelength)
• Relatively short life at higher currents
• Life expectation sensitive to temperature and humidity
• Well suited for applications requiring high output power (watts)

High Brightness - InGaAlP (Indium Gallium Aluminum Phosphide, aka AlInGaP)

• Available in green, orange, red and yellow LEDs.
• Excellent life times.
• Extended life expectation
• Very good brightness in all colors
• Available in AS (Absorbing Substrate) and TS (Transparent Substrate)
• Higher cost
• Life expectation not environmentally sensitive
• Broad range of hues available

High Brightness - InGaN and GaN (Indium Gallium Nitride and Gallium Nitride)

• Typically used for blue, green and white LEDs
• Very Good Brightness in blue and green
• Moderate life time
• ESD Sensitive
• Highest Cost Material
• Used to produce white LEDs by adding phosphor
