Point Source Emitters

Marktech Point Source LEDs are unique devices utilizing a special die that produces a well defined pattern of light similar to a "point". These die or chips in combination with high quality optical grade glass lenses produce an extremely narrow, near parallel radiation pattern. The die aperture widow ranges in size from 25um - 200um making it ideal for a wide variety of fiber optic communication links. These devices are also well suited for optical encoders or similar sensing applications that require a high degree of sensitivity, accuracy and reliability. Point source devices have a uniform optical power distribution making them suitable for optical switches.

Point Source Die

Our Point source die is composed of InGaAlP or GaAlAs material and are available in a wide variety of packages including TO-18, TO-46, Pill Package, surface mounts and lead frame type. They can also be mounted in hybrid fashion to standard PCBs or other substrates for a complete customized package.

An additional feature of point source die is that it provides an unobstructed light source since the wire bond is attached away from the emission source. In conventional type die, the wire bond is typically located central to the light emission source which produces a "dark spot". By eliminating this dark spot, point source LEDs yield superior results when used in fiber optic applications.

Point Source LEDs

Marktech Optoelectronics offers Point Source LEDs with or without optics to provide the designer with optimum flexibility in sophisticated design efforts. Devices supplied without optics are manufactured with a glass window allowing the designer to utilize proprietary collimating or other application specific optics to take full advantage of the undistorted beam.

Marktech is planning on introducing a new high power point source chip in late 2010 with an output approximately 4 times higher than currently available technology. This may be a suitable replacement for VCSEL Laser Diodes. In addition to Point Source Emitters, Marktech offers matching Photo Detectors to complete your assembly.
